The myCOW App empowers farmers to make more informed cow, feed and management decisions by collecting milk, cow, feed and farm data and displaying this against targets and giving farmers practical insights.

The myCOW APP

  • Improve feed conversion efficiency (more milk produced per kg of feed consumed)
  • To more clearly see what is happening in the cows & focus more on the key areas that need attention on-farm
  • Gain specific & practical solutions to flagged issues by trained professionals
  • Get a clearer picture of profit from feed
  • Be able to take action early to gain maximum benefit for cow performance, reproduction & cow health
  • More closely monitor Feed Conversion Efficiency (FCE), Emissions (GHG) & Income Over Feed Costs (IOFC)

The myCOW Story

1

2012

The initial vision for helping farmers with feed nutrition to drive cow performance and health started over 10 years ago, while giving basic milk and feed data advice on Canterbury farms.
2

2015

Our passion grew as we saw the improvements in cow production and health, in turn growing our vision for what could be achieved if we could give more specific advice backed by research and information.
3

2020

Fast-forward five years, and we started to see the first cow wearable/sensor technology on cows, giving us cow-specific information for the first time on rumination. This was only known previously if we had the patience to stand there counting each cow's cud chews…
4

2021

As more and more farmers adopted cow wearables, the conversation grew – what does this data mean, and how can we use it? We started asking others in the industry to learn as much as we could.
5

2022

We were already processing some basic milk and farm data, so with this whole new cow wearable tool at our disposal, we built spreadsheets to process the information and create displays. This let us see trends in rumination and eating minutes that lined up with changes in feed and management.
6

2023

With cows responding well to data-driven feed decisions, we developed a bigger vision: to use automation so more farmers could make full use of the data already at their fingertips.
7

Early 2024

From there, we got really excited by the potential of this new data age and where it could take the dairy industry. We set out to build a tool that farmers could use themselves, letting them display and decipher their own data using planned targets, displays and notifications.
8

Later 2024

The planning of the myCOW App started, and with it the birth of our company, myCOW NZ.
9

Early 2025

he first wireframes and visual displays were created, and the first challenges arose in data flow and connection, as well as building relationships with Agritech companies.
10

Mid 2025

After hundreds of emails, meetings and rounds of testing, the myCOW App hit its first major milestone: live on-farm testing with data flowing in from a milk processor. Seeing the first graph light up with real-time data, I felt a glow inside and thought, "This could actually be possible!".
